Walking out to face an audience requires grace and poise under enormous pressure, and the projection of power and confidence by our Midshipmen. They learn to perform with excellence without arrogance, with humility that comes from understanding.
— J.B. Talley, Professor Emeritus and former Chairman, Department of Musical Activities

Music has long been deeply woven into the fabric of the United States Naval Academy.   The Navy Hymn, sung by our Midshipmen Choirs and played daily on the Chapel Bells; Anchor’s Aweigh and the Marine’s Hymn played by the Drum and Bugle Corps at noon formation; the National Anthem sung by the Glee Clubs; the retreat of colors at sunset when traffic stops, and everyone comes to attention, and a wonderful stillness comes over the Yard; the singing of Navy Blue and Gold always and everywhere, all these things remind us who we are and why we are here.

Our Mission

We call this endeavor a “fund for excellence.” Friends of Naval Academy Music is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial support for Naval Academy Musical Activities. In an era of uncertain budgets, this organization - and your support - is critical to sustain musical activities generations of midshipmen have enjoyed.
